Lore/Backstory

Amethystia was born in Corvos to her mother, G'rhea, and was named after the purple shade of her eyes and her mother's love of gemstones. She left Corvos as a young child, no older than nine, when the Garlean Empire showed up, where her mother took her to live in a coastal village outside of Limsa Lominsa. Not soon after moving to Eorzea, her mother found a shipwreck on the coast. The only survivor, a young Xaela child only a couple years younger than herself. Her mother named her Obsidienne, after the beautiful black color of her scales, and the two were raised as sisters. The two girls grew up hunting with their mother, both growing masterfully skilled with a bow. It wasn't until she lefto to join the Scions and the WoL, that Amethystia finally took her love for dancing into battle, like the dancers in Thavnair she saw as a child. She also learned that she had a knack for healing after tending to her and her sister's wounds after hunting trips, using what she taught herself in battle when it was needed.

Spitfire in Tural

I had just arrived at Xbalyav Ty’e, where I am supposed to be meeting Ryuu to get some tacos together. I was walking in and saw Ryuu talking with a Turali man, so I waited off to the side for them to finish as I don’t want to interrupt. While staring off into the ocean, I was just about to zone out in my thoughts when I heard a man start yelling. The man Ryuu was talking to had started to yell at him and jab at his chest aggressively. Ryuu, aware of his own strength, kept trying to walk away, not wanting to get into a fight for the other man’s safety. The angry man would have none of it, and kept yelling and jabbing at Ryuu. I will not stand for this, so I storm over to the two men. I start pushing the man, swearing and yelling at him, ready to fight to defend Ryuu. I get ready to pounce on the man, but Ryuu grabs me and holds me back, dragging me out of the restaurant yelling and kicking before I get into a fight and in trouble with the Landsguard. He takes me back to the beach near the cabins to calm down.
“Calm down spitfire, you’re gonna get us both in trouble,” Ryuu says while laughing.
“That man was attacking you! I had to do something!” I said.
“He wasn’t attacking me, Rose. He was being a bit aggressive, yes, but I would have been fine without you going into full attack mode,” he says while continuing to laugh at me.
“Stop laughing, it’s not funny! I had to protect you!” I say trying to hold back my own laughter at the situation.
Ryuu looks at me with that look he gives me when he knows I’m being ridiculous. “You looked like a wild banshee!”
With that, I lose it, and stay laughing along with him. After we both finally stop laughing, we head for Aunt Tii’s for some tacos.

Meeting An Old Friend

One day while at the Waking Sands to turn in a mission report, the WoL was there recruiting some fellow adventurers and scions willing to help him delve into the Crystal Tower. I knew of this massive structure from my adventures in the region of Mor Dhona, towering over it’s landscape. I had always wondered what lay within it. I approached the WoL and told him I was interested in helping him in the party to clear the labyrinth at the base of the tower. He gave me a time and place where the clear party would be meeting. After turning in my report, I set out to prepare and leave for Mor Dhona.******************************************************************************************************The adventuring party cleared the labyrinth quickly, with only a few minor injuries amongst those who entered. As the labyrinth was now clear, us adventurers were no longer needed for the time being and prepared to head out so the WoL and the rest of NOAH could start studying the ruins. As I prepared to leave, my eyes caught those of someone I knew and hadn’t seen since I left Corvos as a child. Even though many years have passed, I knew it was him. My childhood friend, G’raha Tia. We were close friends as children, seeing as we were both outcasts amongst our clan. That is, anyway, until Garlemald showed up and my mother took me and left for Eorzea. His eyes, so unforgettable, one red and one blue, caught mine at the same moment I saw him. In them the same look up surprise and recognition that was displayed in my own eyes. Before I could go over and talk to him, however, we were both pulled by the attention of our respective groups to attend to tasks. By the time I had turned back around to call out to him, he was already out of sight.******************************************************************************************************I decided to wait back at Saint Coinach’s Find, since that was the base of operations for NOAH and their expedition. Eventually he would make his way back here, and I could reconnect with my old friend.A few hours must have passed, because I had seemed to doze off while resting next to Bryaxis (chocobo), and was awoken by a gentle tap on my shoulder. It was Raha whom I awoke to smiling at me.“Hello, Rose,” he said still smiling while holding out his hand to help me up. “Do you remember me?”“Raha! Of course I remember you. You were one of my only friends back home besides my brother. I didn’t know you managed to get out of Corvos as well. Did you leave around the same time as us, when the Garleans showed up?”“I did. When they started arriving I was sent to Sharlayan for safe keeping among my father’s friends. It is there where I joined up with the Students of Baldesion and ended up here. How have you been Rose, what did you and your family get up to after leaving Corvos?”I began telling stories of my adventures around Eorzea, joining with the Scions and the WoL. Raha in turn told me some of his own stories from his time at Sharlayan. The two of us were talking what seemed hours, when we noticed the sun setting. We said our farewells, for the evening, making sure to exchange where to write one another while we waited for the next expedition into the tower.******************************************************************************************************A few weeks have passed, I am back home and Raha is still in Mor Dhona. We have been keeping the Post Moogles buys by writing each other practically every day. Writing about everything ranging from exchanging stories from our time after leaving Corvos, reminiscing about shared childhood memories, to just getting to know one another better now that we are both adults. The more letters that are exchanged between us, the more the crush I had on him as children is returning and growing.******************************************************************************************************The time had come to enter the tower, so I headed back out to Mor Dhona. Raha had requested I come before the rest of the raiding party, as he had some interesting developments he wanted to share with me.When I arrived, I set out to find my friend, before even finding a place to set my things at camp. I found Rammbroes, who told me I could find G’raha at the edge of the lake. Apparently he had been spending a lot of time there thinking to himself after they opened the doors to the tower. I make my way to the lake’s edge, and see him standing there lost in thought.“Hi, Raha. It’s good to see you again! In your letter you said you wanted to talk?”“Yes. While you were away, we made some discoveries about the tower which revealed some things about our tribe….about myself. I’m not sure what it all means or how to feel about it, and I needed someone to talk to. You were the only one I knew I could vent to without judgement. So, thank you for coming back early to see me.” He then began to explain to me everything that happened. Unei and Doga showing up, the reason for his red eye, what it meant for our tribe’s history, how he felt about what it all means and what his future holds.Once he was finished, he seemed relieved, but I knew deep down he still worried about what it all meant. Concerned for my friend, I knew he need to get his mind off of things, a distraction, at least for one night. So, I invited him to my tent for some tea. “Want to relax, get your mind off things? I managed to get my hands on some Corvosi tea in the back alleys of the Sapphire Exchange. We could invite the WoL and the rest of NOAH if you like!”“Corvosi tea! I haven’t had that since we were kids! I would love some! I would, however, like to keep it to just the two of us if that’s ok? I don’t want the crowd right now with everything going on.”“More tea for us then!”We spent the whole evening drinking tea and chatting, and before I knew it, the sun was coming up already. The day of the raid had arrived.“Sun up means it’s time to prepare. Such a shame too, there is still plenty of this delicious tea left. Too bad it will go to waste, and after you went through such trouble to acquire it,” he says a bit solemnly.“I have a magicked container I also found at the back markets, it’s supposed to keep cold things cold and hot things hot. I can put the tea in it and you can take it with you if you wish.”At those words, his ears and tail perked up in glee. But as quickly as he got excited, I saw them droop back down as he began to say, “As lovely as that would be, I can’t take your only magicked container and the last of your tea.”“I have more tea and another container at home,” I said as I put the last of the tea into the container and handed it to him. He perked back up, beaming and placing the container in his bag.“Thank you, Rose. We should go meet with the rest of the team now.” He said as he opened the tent flap, keeping it open for me to pass through. As I begin walking out, I tripped over a leg of the sitting table. I would have fallen over if he didn’t catch me. He held me in his arms, and caught my eyes with his. “Are you alright?” he asked. But I couldn’t hear him, I was too wrapped up in being lost in those eyes. In being close enough to him to feel his heart race. Taking in his intoxicating scent. Before I knew it, I started purring. Gods dammit why did I have to start purring. Stop purring before he hears you. Stop purring dammit. Before I could get myself together and stop, he brings his face closer to mine. His nose brushing up against mine, I could feel the warmth of his breath as he whispers, “You’re purring…” With those words he presses his lips on mine. But it only lasts a fleeting moment before the tent flap opens, its Rammbroes. We quickly pull apart, cheeks still flushed.“It’s time to head up to the tower. Let’s go you two.” Rammbroes says nonchalantly to the both of us. Either he didn’t see what he just interrupted or he didn’t care. Either way the moment was over and it was time to go.Raha clears his throat, “Shall we?” He says, as he again holds the tent open for me to come out.******************************************************************************************************With everything that happened at the tower; the voidgate opening and Unei and Nero getting pulled through, everything has been chaos while we all try to get our bearings. Everyone decides that it is best to head back to Saint Coinnach to regroup and form a plan. While the WoL, Cid, and Rammbroes form a plan, I head off to find G’raha, who seems to have wandered off somewhere.I make my way to his usual thinking spot by the lake, but he was nowhere to be found. I check at his tent, and again no G’raha. I ask around camp and no one there has seen him either or knows where he has gone off to. I begin to worry that he has headed back to the tower to do something wreckless and stupid. So, I head back to my tent to gather some supplies before heading back up to the tower just in case. I walk into my tent, and there he is, pacing back and forth, looking as nervous and worried as I expected him to be just not where I expected him to be.“Raha! I’ve been looking everywhere for you! What are you doing in here? Are you feeling ok? Your eye, I noticed you clench it back at the tower.”“My eye? Yes, it’s fine now. However, something is bothering me. I feel like I am forgetting something important, but for the life of me I cannot remember what that something is… I have a memory I must recall. I remember my father telling me, ‘the truth of our eye rests with Allag.’ If only I could figure out what it all means. Its driving me crazying trying to unlock this hidden secret within me. Anyway…how are you faring after everything that happened earlier?”“I’m ok, all things considered. Raha… about what happened before we went into the tower. I…” but before I could finish my thought, a post moogle came in with a letter from my mother. “It’s from my mother, my sister was injured while out hunting. I’m sorry, but I need to go and see her. Please call for me when a plan has been figured out for the tower.”“Of course, I will write as soon as we have a plan. And about earlier… we can talk when you get back. Go. Go take care of your sister.” With those words, he bowed a farewell and was gone.******************************************************************************************************I arrived back a the family cottage where Mom greeted me.“Rose, my dear, I take it you got my letter?”“Yes, Mom. How is she doing?”“You know how Obsidienne is, stubborn and hard-headed, not wanting her rest. Insisting she’s fine and wanting to get back out hunting. But her wounds still bleed through bandages, she needs more rest. Maybe you could talk some sense into her?”“Are her wounds that serious that she’s still bleeding through?”“No, no, nothing serious. Just one gash from a coeurl’s talon. It’s not deep or large, its just where it is and with her not wanting to rest it keeps reopening.”“I have some time until the mission I am working on needs me back. I will talk to her and stay a few days to make sure she rests and heals up.”“Thank you, my dear. She is sleeping right now, thankfully. We can wake her in a bit for dinner. I know she will be happy to spend some time with you, she miss you now that you no longer live at home.A few hours pass, while I talk with Mom and we start to prepare dinner. After enjoying dinner together, I took Obsidienne outside to chat. She needed some sense knocked into her and I needed someone to talk to about G’raha Tia.“Sidy, you really should rest and heal up. You are never going to heal if you don’t, and you are starting to worry Mom.”“I just hate being so still and stuck in one place. I need to be out there seeing the world. Plus, if I don’t complete hunt marks, Mom will have to go back into the mines. She’s getting too old for all that hard work Rose.”“I make plenty of money adventuring and working with the Scions, I’ll give you two enough money to hold you over until you are well enough to head back out there. Sidy, please. If you get more hurt or Twelve forbid die because of this, I wouldn’t be able to bear it and it would send Mom to an early grave. So please Sidy, please rest and get better.”“Fine. I won’t like it, but ill do it for Mom.”“Thanks.”“I guess I should head inside and begin my torture,” she grumbles as she begins to get up to head inside.“Obsidienne… wait. Before you go in, I need to talk to someone and Mom will just get all weird about it. Do you mind giving me your ear?”“Sure. What’s on your mind sis?” she says sitting back down to listen.“You remember the stories Mom and I would tell you about our home in Corvos?”“Yeah.”“And do you remember the boy with the red hair and mismatched eyes I hung out with and had a crush on? I think I’ve told you about him.”“Oh you told me about him alright. Many, many, many times you have told me about him,” she says laughing and rolling her eyes.I begin to blush, embarrassed by how much I used to talk about him when we were younger.“Rose, I’m assuming this is going somewhere?”“Yes. Sorry. Well… I ran into him again while working on this mission. We reconnected and have also been writing each other everyday between raids. It brought back those butterflies and feelings, and right before the last raid…” I paused slightly nervous to say it out loud, “we kissed. And then everything was so busy after, that we didn’t get to talk or…” I trailed off a moment staring off at the ocean, not sure what to say next. “I don’t know what it means or how to feel about it, and to make matters worse, I…” pausing again not sure if I want to tell her this part.“You what? Spit it out Rose!”“I was purring, Sidy.” I said as I buried my face in my hands from embarrassment.“And that's bad?”“Of course it's bad.”“Remind me again why you Miqo’te purr?”“Sorry. Sometimes I forget you aren’t a Miqo’te like Mom and I. Us females will purr when we are really, really excited. Like when Mom got me my first pair of chakrams, remember?”“I remember, what’s so bad about that?”“It wouldn’t be so bad if that was the reason. We also purr for another reason, and it was definitely the other reason. He also definitely knew it that reason too because he kissed me as soon as he realized.”“What’s this reason, and why is it so bad? It can’t be that bad if it got him to kiss you.”“I was purring because I was aroused, Sidy. He noticed and kissed me,” I blurt out with a panic.“Oh…”“Yeah… Now I don’t know if he only kissed me because of that or if he would have kissed me anyway or how to feel about this whole thing outside of the purring. I just, I’m not sure how to feel since we were interrupted as soon as we kissed and we haven’t had time to talk since.”“Just act like nothing happened.”“Act like nothing happened?! Something most definitely happened, Sidy. I can’t just pretend like it didn’t.”“It would make things easier.”“It would most definitely NOT make things easier. Plus I don’t want to pretend like it didn’t happen. All I keep thinking about is the feeling of his lips on mine and I want more.”
“Well, you already have your answer then.”
I look at her puzzled. She sighs, rolling her eyes and shaking her head. “You know, you’re really smart sis, but sometimes you’re really dumb too. If you want more of him, get more of him. Next time you see him, kiss him again and see where it goes.”I let out a big sigh, admitting all this and getting it out has lifted a huge weight off of my shoulders. “Maybe you’re right.”“I know I’m right!” she says nudging my arm, and we both laugh.By now, the sun has begun to set, we both sit there watching it go down before returning inside for the evening.******************************************************************************************************During my ride back to Mor Dhona, my thoughts kept racing between thoughts on how I would handle seeing G’raha again. Should I pretend like nothing happened or should I go for more like Obsidienne suggested. Before I can wrap my head around a decision, I’m at the camp and everyone is already getting gathered to hear t
